No agreement yet on govt employees' salary demand; cabinet meeting to take a decision
Talks between the ministerial team and the representatives of the agitating government employees on the latter's demand for pay hike ended inconclusively Saturday.
In the talks held at the Finance Ministry in Singha Durbar, the government employees reiterated their demand for a flat increment of at Rs 5000 while the ministers said the government was not in a position to do that.
Even as there was no agreement on the ratio of increment, the government team assured that tomorrow's cabinet meeting would announce a salary hike.
Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, Minister for Irrigation Bal Krishna Khand and Minister for Law Prem Bahadur Singh participated in the talks with the representatives of various civil servant unions. The government employees and the ministerial team had sat for talks on Thursday and Friday.
The civil servants have been staging protests demanding salary hike from Tuesday, a day after the Finance Minister presented the budget for the fiscal year 2009/10. nepalnews.com
