India ready to set up high-level mechanism to resolve border problem: Menon

Visiting Indian foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon has said India is ready to set up a high-level joint mechanism to resolve the border problem.

During a meeting with foreign minister Sujata Koirala Sunday, the Indian foreign secretary said India is willing for negotiation on such a mechanism at the earliest.

He also invited FM Koirala for a visit to New Delhi, possibly within two weeks, it is learnt.

Earlier today, he met defence minister Bidhaya Bhandari and Deputy Prime Minister and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum leader Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar. His meeting with Bhandari dwelled mainly on the peace process, especially the army integration issue, while with Gachchhadar he discussed the Madhesi parties' role in the new coalition and the MJF split.

On Saturday, Menon held separate meetings with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala and UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal. He returned to New Delhi in the evening. nepalnews.com June 21 09
