Kathmandu hammer Lalbandi

BIRATNAGAR, Feb 27 ; Kathmandu Club started their Khukuri Cup campaign in positive note thrashing Lalbandi Sporting Club, Sarlahi 6-2 in a second phase match played at Sahid Stadium Biratnagar on Thursday.

Bhadra Shushil netted the first goal for Kathmandu in the 24th minute after Amrit Bajracharya fed him a perfect pass at the centre. ‘A’ division outfit Kathmandu Club added another goal in the last minute of the first half when Bajracharya directed the ball past Lalbandi goal.

Kathmandu Club’s Raghu Prajapati scored their third goal in the match just after a minute from the break. His free-kick taken from the left went straight into the net. Shahi Shrestha added another goal a couple of minutes later to make it 4-0.

Lalbandi pulled one back in the 56th minute after Madhav KC of Kathmandu Club guided the ball into his own net. Nabindra Maharjan scored twice in the 66th and 71st minute to win the match 6-2 in tennis-like fashion. Chandra Lama found a late consolation goal for Lalbandi.

Royal Nepal Army’s Tribhuvan Club entered the quarterfinals of the second phase demolishing Saraswati Football Club 4-0 on Thursday. Babukaji Dhaubanjar fired a 30-yarder free-kick into Rautahat’s net in the 13th minute to put his team 1-0 up. Tul Bahadur Thapa headed home the second goal in the 20th minute to take firm grip in the match. In the second half Tribhuvan Club added two more goals through Sahila Maharjan and Hari Mahato in the 47th and 67th minute respectively.

In the second match of the day, team from Palpa bounced back from a goal down to edge Chitwan 4-3 in a high scoring thriller. Pramod Udaya of Palpa erased Sajan Shretha’s opening minute goal in the 19th minute. Purna Bahadur Rana put Palpa ahead two minutes later but Chitwan’s Sak Bahadur Thapa levelled the match in the 44th minute. Som Thapa scored two second half goals while Anil Lama pulled one back in the later part of the match. New Road Team (NRT) will take on Panchthar while Mithila Club will meet Boys Union on Friday.

Sankata Youth Club hammered Kanchanpur Youth Club 9-0 while Naxal Youth Club had to toil hard to earn 2-0 win over Suryodaya Cultural Team Mohattari in Nepalgunj centre.

Rajkumar Ghising scored four goals for Sankata while Rajiv Nepali struck twice and Kailash Dangol, Chandra Tamang, Sunil Maharjan netted a piece in the match. Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) will meet Friendship Club Surkhet while FC Internet takes on United Club, Jhapa.
