The United National People’s Movement Central Committee of the former rebel party, which has been organizing nationwide agitation begining Nov 1 to uphold what it calls “civilian supremacy”, issued a press release Friday stating that the party’s aforementioned program has been called off for now.
It (plans to declare autonomous provinces) will be re-introduced at the opportune time, the release adds.
The release signed by UCPN (Maoist) Vice-Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai, who is also the coordinator of the Committee, states that the program to declare autonomous provinces has been withdrawn as "the party felt it necessary to make minor amendments in few of its pre-announced protest programmes."
Similarly, in the release the Maoist party cadres have also been directed not to impose shutdown strike at the TIA under the plan to impose blockades in the Kathmandu valley on November 10.
The highways connecting the Kathmandu to the rest of the country will however be obstructed, the release adds.
