The meeting of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) had to be postponed Sunday after members representing the Unified CPN (Maoist) did not show up.
Although the Maoist members themselves had proposed regular meetings of the AISC every Sunday, they skipped the meeting as their party was launching an agitation from yesterday.
Issues of code of ethics for Maoist combatants and chain of command for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), that were on the agenda of Sunday's meeting, could not be finalised after the meeting got postponed.
We only had informal discussion on these issues after the main stakeholder did not turn up, said a committee member Ram Sharan Mahat.
Barsha Man Pun and Janardan Sharma represent the UCPN (Maoist) in the AISC. Other members of the AISC are Ishwar Pokhrel from CPN (UML), Ram Sharan Mahat and Minendra Rijal from Nepali Congress, Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), Sharat Singh Bhandari from MJF (Loktantrik) and Mahendra Yadav from Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party. The committee is chaired by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
An AISC meeting held last week had decided to hold regular meetings of the committee every Sunday. However, the Maoist representatives had informed they would not come to the next meeting if their demands on the President's move and the civil supremacy were not addressed till then.
The Maoists have begun their second round of protests against the President's move to block the erstwhile government's decision to sack the then Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Rookmangud Katawal. Nepalnews.com
