The ongoing Mahasamiti meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) is to continue discussion on the party’s statute amendment proposal tabled by Krishna Prasad Sitaula including other political dossiers on Tuesday.

On the third day of the NC Mahasamiti meeting being held at the National Academy Hall in the capital, Mahasamiti members who are yet to put forth their opinions on the proposed statute submitted by Sitaula on Monday will be given opportunity to speak.

Altogether 34 Mahasmiti members had put forth their views on the statute amendment proposal and other political dossiers that were tabled on Monday.

Stating that the provision of nominating the CC and party office bearers has made the “party weak and undemocratic”, NC lawmaker Narahari Acharya demanded election of 80 percent CC members and party office bearers.

The majority of the 34 Mahasamiti members also supported Acharya and said CC and party office bearers should come through direct elections.

During yesterday’s meeting, some NC leaders stressed on the need for collective leadership of the party by downsizing the role and power for the party president. They also expressed their concern over the party leadership’s “incompetence”.

However, NC president Girija Prasad Koirala is said to be in no mood for the election for the party’s top post and favors stronger role for party president instead of making it ceremonial, as some NC leaders are proposing.

Sitaula had submitted the statute amendment proposal after incorporating the different views and opinions that were floated at the recently concluded central working committee meeting of the party.

Four other proposals were tabled during yesterday’s closed-door meeting.

NC Vice-Chairman and parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel had presented political report. NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi tabled a proposal on party organization while leaders Chakra Prasad Bastola and Gopal Man Shrestha tabled proposal on the fundamental issues of the constitution and state restructuring, respectively. nepalnews.com

GPK, the main cause of the downfall of NC.. it has lost all the popularity.. a
new system of age limitation shall be introduced.. NC president should not be
ceremonial.. but GPK shall be made a Ceremonial leader than the crucial role
player .. and new young leaders shall be given chances for the presedential
post.. GPK's greed for the Power and Kursi may destroy the the whole NC..

Congress is a party where zero level of Dempcracy. And irony is they are called
founder of democracy in Neppal. This is the history of Nepal which every body in
Nepal knows after that also people are following congress because they think
that if cmmunist rules the country then their private property will siege by
them and nothing will left for them. congress paty need to change themeslves so
they can stant against people of Nepal othrwise they doesn't have future. They
should take this Mahasamiti meeting as very serious and should bring such thing
where nepali people can trust them again.
