Nepali Congress joint general secretary Arjun Narsingh KC said the mission behind the Maoist protests is to capture state power and impose communist rule in Nepal.
Speaking at Reporters Club in Kathmandu on Tuesday, KC said Maoists have obligation to withdraw the protests and sit for talks to resolve the current deadlock. He said since other parties cannot write constitution sidelining the Maoists, the opposition party should also feel responsible for completing the mandate given by people during the elections.
He further said Maoists are working against the peace agreement by announcing autonomous states.
Speaking at the same programme, Maoist leader Janardhan Sharma said declaration of autonomous Kirat state was against the party policy. When asked whether action will be taken against Gopal Kirati, who announced the autonomous state, Sharma said the party will take formal decision on the matter at the earliest possible.
Sharma, however, said the protest programmes will continue until civilian supremacy is restored.
CPN-UML secretary Yuvraj Gywali also called the opposition party to call off the protests and sit for talks to find solution. nepalnews.com
