The Supreme Court (SC) has scrapped former Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) governor Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri’s plea for reinstatement, on Friday.

Hearing on a writ petition filed by former governor Chhetri, a division bench of justices Mohan Prasad Sitaula and Balram KC refused Chhetri’s plea for reinstatement saying the appointment was conditional.

The SC order has also established re-appointment of Bijaya Nath Bhattarai as NRB governor saying his rights would be automatically established once he got a clean chit from the corruption charges.

Bijya Nath Bhattarai was dismissed from the NRB governor position two years ago after he was charged of corruption. The second man in NRB Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri was appointed as acting governor to replace him.

When the court acquitted Bhattarai from corruption charges, the government had again appointed Bhattarai as the NRB governor for his remaining term. Chhetri had moved court after that saying his dismissal was unlawful. nepalnews.com
