Tourist arrivals to the country in the month of October compared to the same month last year have increased by 10.8% to 56,009, according to the figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
In October this year, there has been a robust growth of 20.1% and 116.4% in visitor arrivals from India and China respectively. Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) have recorded positive growth. Visitor arrivals from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand have registered a positive growth by 10.7%, 55.8%, 127.8%, 4.3% and 3.6% respectively. In aggregate the Asian segment has registered a positive growth of 41.2%.
In the SAARC region, arrivals from Pakistan and Sri Lanka have registered positive growth by 177.4% and 106.3% respectively. The only market to decline in this month was Bangladesh by 49.5%.In aggregate the South Asian segment has registered a positive growth of 6.8%.
An overall positive growth of 9.9% has been observed from the European markets with arrivals from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands up by 4.3%, 6.6%, 5.8%, 2.3% and 13.6% respectively. However, the arrivals from Switzerland, Spain, and Belgium registered a negative growth of 3.1%, 9.5%, and 15.5% respectively.
Tourist arrivals from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA have also registered robust growth of 20.6%, 21.3% 21.3%, and 14.3% respectively.
This is the fifth consecutive month Nepal has witnessed positive growth in the international tourist arrivals. The growth in India and China has been major contributing factors in overall increase in the visitor arrivals. The growth from China and the Netherlands can be safely linked to addition of two new airlines in 2009.
The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 49,523 while 49,827 Nepalese departed from TIA in October 2009. nepalnews.com
