Govt’s total expenditure hits Rs 667.60 billion in first six months

KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal’s total expenditure reached Rs 667.60 billion in the first half of FY 2024/25.

This information was provided by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) in its report titled “Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal (Based on Six Months Data Ending Mid-January 2024/25),” referencing data from the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO).

The government’s expenditure during this period was broken down into Rs 452 billion for recurrent costs, Rs 56.94 billion for capital investments, and Rs 158.66 billion for financial expenditures.

Regarding revenue collection, the government generated Rs 559.61 billion, which includes funds to be transferred to provincial and local governments.

This total consists of Rs 489.40 billion from tax revenue and Rs 70.21 billion from non-tax revenue.

By mid-January 2025, the cash balance in various government accounts with NRB stood at Rs 297.70 billion, which includes accounts for provincial and local governments.

This was a significant increase from Rs 83.99 billion in mid-July 2024.

Provincial Government Expenditure and Revenue

During the same period, provincial governments spent Rs 44.81 billion and mobilized Rs 84.91 billion.

This mobilization includes Rs 67.17 billion in grants and revenue from the Government of Nepal and Rs 17.74 billion in revenue and other receipts raised by the provincial governments.
