KATHMANDU: Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, Executive Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), has resigned from his post on Friday. He has submitted his resignation letter to Acting Governor Neelam Dhungana.
According to the source, Bhatta resigned from the post of Executive Director after the ruling coalition parties Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have agreed to make him the governor.
Prime Minister Oli had discussed the new governor of Nepal Rastra Bank with Congress President Deuba on Wednesday.
Despite having a majority government, the issue of appointing a governor has become complicated due to the tussle between the Congress and the UML.
The recommendation committee led by Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, which will probably meet on Friday, is likely to recommend the names of three people including Bhatta as the new governor.
After the recommendation committee sent three names on Friday, the upcoming cabinet meeting is set to finalize the appointment of the new governor.
