KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has paved the way for economist Dr. Biswo Poudel to become the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.
On Tuesday, a single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla upheld the previous decision by the Supreme Court administration to reject a writ that sought to block Paudel from being appointed Governor.
Advocates Pratibha Upreti and Bishal Thapa had filed the writ at the Supreme Court, demanding that Paudel be disqualified from the position.
However, with the Supreme Court administration dismissing the writ last Friday, the legal path for his appointment has now been cleared.
Politically, there is already an agreement between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to appoint Paudel as Governor.
Earlier on Monday, the two advocates had submitted an application to reverse the writ rejection decision, but the court did not entertain the request.
