The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Transport of Bagmati has issued a standard regarding the quality of operation and management of taxi service.

The state government has brought certain criteria to operate electric taxis in two types: ordinary taxis and special (deluxe) taxis. According to the criteria, a taxi that has been in use for 20 years within the Kathmandu Valley must be replaced by a new, electric one.

The government has said that it will fix taxi fares at different rates, depending upon the type of taxi. If one wants to register a new taxi, the production period of the taxi should have reached at least 15 years. The standard has also made arrangements to present the meter-reading on a digital display board inside the taxi.
