KATHMANDU: Security has been tightened across prohibited areas in Kathmandu following the Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s (RPP) challenge to defy government-imposed restrictions.

According to Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Bishwa Adhikari, police forces will be deployed from early Sunday morning to ensure security and prevent any breach of the restricted areas.

“Our teams will be in place before any activity begins,” he said.

Central police sources confirmed that personnel from various battalions and special squads based in the Kathmandu Valley will be mobilized in anticipation of the RPP’s planned demonstrations.

Authorities have readied non-expired tear gas canisters, plastic bullets, and water cannons to manage any potential unrest, security sources said.

Simultaneously, the Valley Traffic Police Office is preparing for potential diversions. Traffic rerouting will be implemented as needed, depending on the situation, according to the Valley Traffic Office.
