Heavy rain alert issued for 12 districts in western Nepal

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued a warning that 12 districts in western Nepal are at high risk of heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday.

According to NDRRMA spokesperson Suren Sunar, based on a special bulletin issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, extremely heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of western Nepal, placing these districts at increased risk.

The districts at risk include Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Doti, Achham, Kailali, and Kanchanpur in Sudurpaschim Province; Surkhet, Dailekh, and Salyan in Karnali Province; and Banke, Bardiya, and Dang in Lumbini Province.

Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in the high-hill areas of other provinces.

In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall has already occurred in parts of Pyuthan, Doti, Baglung, and Kailali, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

It stated that the weather remains cloudy across the country, with rainfall occurring in several locations.

By Monday morning, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the hilly and Terai regions of Karnali, Sudurpaschim, and Lumbini provinces.

A few places in the hilly regions of other provinces may also experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
