KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has stated that the Sagarmatha Sambaad successfully raised awareness about the challenges caused by climate change, from the Himalayas to island nations.
Speaking at the closing session of the Sambaad, which began last Friday, she said, “This edition of the sambaad has brought together leaders, policymakers, experts, academics, youth, civil society, international organizations, and communities from high mountains to island nations, fostering a spirit of genuine conversation.”
Emphasizing the need for collective efforts to implement the Sambaad’s conclusions and achieve its targeted goals, Minister Dr. Rana described the dialogue not merely as an event but as a convergence of ideas and a celebration of shared responsibilities.
She added, “Just as Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) stands tall as a symbol of our resilience, may the outcomes of this dialogue remind us of our commitment.”
The Minister also informed that the issues and recommendations discussed during the dialogue would be presented at various international forums, including the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Conservation in Tajikistan later this month, the 80th United Nations General Assembly, and the COP-30 UN Climate Change Conference in Brazil this year.
Additionally, she announced that the second edition of the Sagarmatha Sambaad would be held in 2027.
