RUKUM EAST: Two people, including an eight-month-old child, have been murdered in Rukum East.
The bodies of the victims, including the child, were discovered in Sakim, Bhume Rural Municipality-4, on Tuesday.
The body of the murder suspect was also found a short distance from the crime scene, according to Inspector Him Bahadur KC, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Rukum East.
Sixty-year-old Dhanti Budha, a resident of Sakim, and her eight-month-old grandson, Samir, were murdered around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses reported that 51-year-old Chandrasingh Pun, also from the same village, was responsible for the killings.
“During a minor dispute on the road near their house, Pun attacked the grandmother and grandson with a sharp weapon, killing them both on the spot,” Inspector KC said.
“After committing the murders, Pun was found dead after falling from a cliff while trying to flee. We are investigating the incident further.”
Pun’s body was discovered approximately 25 meters below the cliff, near a river.
“We suspect he died either by falling from the cliff or was thrown from it while attempting to escape,” Inspector KC said.
“The location of the murders and where the suspect’s body was found are about 300 meters apart.”
According to eyewitnesses, the grandmother was carrying her grandson on her back and walking along the road when Pun attacked them with a khukuri, killing them instantly.
Initial police investigations suggest a minor dispute between the two families may have led to the attack.
