KATHMANDU: The United States has deported between 40 and 50 Nepali nationals today (Sunday) for residing in the country without legal documentation.

The deportees are arriving today on a chartered flight organized by the U.S. government, scheduled to land at 4:15 PM. The precise number of passengers on board is yet to be confirmed.

This marks the second time the U.S. has organized a chartered deportation flight for Nepali nationals. On a prior occasion, eight individuals were returned to Nepal under similar circumstances.

Upon arrival, the deportees will undergo detailed screening by immigration authorities before being handed over to Nepal Police. The Human Trafficking Bureau will conduct initial interrogations to gather information about how the individuals entered the U.S. and who might have facilitated their illegal journey.

Following the return of President Donald Trump to office for a second term, the U.S. has toughened its immigration stance. As a result, deportations of undocumented immigrants—including those from Nepal and India—have notably increased.
