KATHMANDU: The government has launched the ‘Shram Sansar’ mobile application to collect detailed information on Nepalis living and working abroad.

The app was jointly inaugurated today by Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba and Labour Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Designed to register the location, condition, and number of Nepalis abroad, the app will help Nepali embassies and the ministries of foreign affairs and labour to provide timely consular services and carry out rescue operations when needed.

Foreign Minister Rana said many migrant workers suffer due to lack of proper information, and this app will ease service delivery based on verified data.

She also announced a new provision allowing undocumented workers to obtain retroactive labour approval (“legalization labour permit”) from embassies of their destination countries, aiming to support their protection and not to encourage illegal migration.

Labour Minister Bhandari said the app and the legalization system will bring relief to many Nepali workers, especially those working without proper documents, and help them access basic rights and services.

The app will be updated by Nepali embassies, and Nepalis abroad are required to input their personal information to benefit from the services.
