KATHMANDU: European Union Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav. The meeting took place today at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur, Kathmandu, where discussions were held on various dimensions of bilateral relations, according to the Office of the Vice President.

Vice President Yadav stated that Nepal places high importance on its friendly relations with the European Union, which have been established since 1974. “I believe the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Nepal and the EU have grown stronger,” he said. “The EU has remained a major development partner of Nepal.”

Praising EU-supported programs in the sectors of health, education, drinking water, sanitation, and rural development, Vice President Yadav said that the initiatives under EU support in Karnali Province have greatly benefited people in remote areas.

Discussing the significance of the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue,’ Vice President Yadav informed that the next edition of the global dialogue platform—established to address issues of climate change, mountains, and the future of humanity—will be held from May 16 to 18, 2025, in Kathmandu.

EU Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo noted that the relationship between Nepal and the European Union has deepened in recent times. “The European Union is keen to invest in the environment and climate change,” she said. Ambassador Lorenzo expressed interest in investing in the Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project, and mentioned that the EU has already invested in renewable energy in Karnali and Madhesh provinces, and is also supporting the education sector in Madhesh Province.
