KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India has banned the screening of the Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s film Abir Gulal. This decision came after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which 27 tourists lost their lives, sparking outrage across India. YouTube India has also removed the songs from the film from its platform.
According to Indian media reports, the government decided to ban the film considering the situation that emerged after the Pahalgam incident. Following the attack, a trend began on social media demanding a ban on Fawad Khan’s film. Promotional content related to the film has been made inaccessible across digital platforms in India, including YouTube. Two previously released songs ‘Khuda Ishq’ and ‘Angrezi Rangrasiya’ are no longer available on YouTube India.
Initially, both songs were uploaded to the official channels of the film’s production house and the music label Saregama, which holds the music rights. However, both videos have now been removed from YouTube India. As announced earlier by the producers, another song titled Tain was scheduled to be released on Wednesday. However, as of now, it has not been released, and the team has not issued any official statement.
The film Abir Gulal, directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, had already drawn criticism after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, opposed its release. Calls for a boycott began as soon as the teaser was released on April 1. The situation worsened further after the Pahalgam attack. Abir Gulal was scheduled for release on May 9.
