Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshay Khanna’s period drama ‘Chhaava’ has had a phenomenal opening at the Indian box office.
The film, which was released on Valentine’s Day, earned a net collection of INR 31 crore on its first day in India and set six new records in terms of first-day earnings.
In 2025, it has also become the biggest opening film for Bollywood. The film has seen great success globally as well. According to Saknilk, the craze for ‘Chhaava’ was also evident in the foreign market on Friday.
The film grossed INR 10 crore abroad on its first day, while its domestic gross was INR 37.25 crore. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, has grossed INR 47.25 crore worldwide on its opening day.
This marks the biggest opening of Vicky Kaushal’s career so far. Previously, his blockbuster ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ had a business of INR 820 crore on its opening day. ‘Chhaava’ is the actor’s first film to earn more than INR 10 crore on its first day.
‘Chhaava’ has a budget of INR 130 crore and is expected to easily join the INR 100 crore club by the first weekend or Monday. In the film, Vicky plays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
This is the actor’s third biographical film, after ‘Sardar Udham’ and ‘Sam Bahadur’.
According to data released by the film’s producers, in addition to Saknilk, ‘Chhaava’ earned INR 50 crore worldwide on the first day, with a net collection in India of INR 331 million.
Another important aspect of Vicky Kaushal’s film is that no major Bollywood or South Indian film is set to release before ‘Sikander’ on March 28. This is expected to benefit ‘Chhaava’ at the box office.
