Actor David Schwimmer has weighed in strongly on Kanye West, calling on Elon Musk to permanently ban the rapper from X, formerly Twitter, after a series of antisemitic remarks.
The Friends alum didn’t mince words, taking to Instagram to slam West’s comments, including “I’m a Nazi” and “I don’t like or trust any Jewish person, and this is completely sober with no Hennessy.”
Schwimmer warned about the real-life impact of such hate speech, saying:
He also referred to the great influence West has: his number of followers on X exceeds the global Jewish population, which makes his rhetoric widespread and dangerous.
The newest pro-Hitler and anti-Jewish comments from West revive concerns about the amplification of hate speech through social media platforms.
This is not the first time that West has been at the center of controversy: he was previously banned on X, among other platforms, while Adidas cut ties with him in the aftermath of previous controversies.
Now, Schwimmer is leading the charge, urging that something be done before more damage is inflicted.
But as debates about free speech versus hate speech continue, one might wonder if it is time for X to take quick action and permanently remove Kanye West.
What do you think? Is it time for X to own up and make the hate disappear?
