KATHMANDU: The Film Development Board will start using its long-awaited “Real-Time Box Office Data” system in the next fortnight. The system has been successfully piloted on Thursday, said Board Chairman Dinesh DC.

Under this new system, the information regarding the sale of cinema tickets will be stored in the central box office server at the latest after five minutes since the sale. Once implemented, this system will mark the successful realization of an effort that has been in the making for years.

Access to the box office data will be granted to government representatives, film producers, and distributors. Chairman DC mentioned that the system will also enable the analysis of a film’s and cinema hall’s performance records. “Every cinema hall will be able to monitor its own business performance,” he stated.

Additionally, the Board plans to transition its services to an online platform by Jestha 15 (around May 28). Service seekers will be able to access all services through the Board’s official website. One of the most convenient features of this initiative is that individuals will no longer need to visit the Board’s office in person. Instead, the Board is preparing to deliver official documents directly to the recipient’s location.

“We are fully prepared to launch these two services by Jestha 15,” said Chairman DC. The inauguration of both systems is scheduled to be conducted by the Minister for Communication and Information Technology.

Furthermore, the Board is preparing for the groundbreaking ceremony of an indoor film shooting studio in Banepa. The Prime Minister is expected to lay the foundation stone for this significant project, although the official date for the ceremony has yet to be confirmed.
