KATHMANDU: Govinda was one of the most popular actors of the 1990s, with nearly every film he starred in becoming a box office hit. However, as time passed, he began receiving fewer roles and less work in the industry.

Today, he finds himself unemployed and sitting at home, while other actors from his era—some of whom were once less prominent—continue to land new projects. His wife, Sunita Ahuja, has spoken out about his lack of opportunities and expressed concern over his career.

Sunita in an interview had expressed that they along with their two children were eagerly awaiting Govinda making his comeback on the silver screen. She had stated that six years have lapsed since he was last featured in a top hero’s role.

During conversation with Zoom, Sunita said that even top stars like Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor continue to find work coming in for them while Govinda has been dropped.

Although he ruled the cinematic world throughout the ’90s, Govinda’s popularity began to decline after 2008. Govinda attempted to come back into limelight numerous times and appeared in supporting roles in Raavan and Kill Dil. His most recent film was in Rangeela Raja, released in 2019, but sadly did not perform well at the box office.
