KATHMANDU: The National Folk Duet Song Idol 2082 is set to be organized by Sanskritik Samaj Nepal on Jestha 26, 27, and 28. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Friday.

Artists affiliated with folk duet venues (Dohori Sanjha) will be eligible to participate in the competition. Advisor and renowned Deuda singer Nanda Krishna Joshi stated that such events will help expand the reach and importance of the folk duet genre.

“If anyone can accurately represent the beauty of Nepal, it is through folk duet songs,” said Joshi. “However, I’ve noticed the use of vulgar words in some modern duets. In the past, artists did not rely on such content to become popular. Unfortunately, many of today’s performers seem less committed to preserving our cultural heritage.”
The coordinator of the event, Chandra Sharma, shared that artists from dohori venues across the country can take part. He added that participants may come from any geographical location, but they must represent an officially recognized dohori venue.

A registration fee of NPR 1,000 will be required to participate. The winning team will receive a motorcycle along with a cash prize of NPR 33,333. The runner-up team will be awarded a scooter and NPR 22,222 in cash.

The event is sponsored primarily by the BBTM Foundation, and the final round will take place at Batase Danda in Nagarkot.

This contest is the start of the first round of the Folk Duet Song Premier League, held for the first time this year, says event manager Amrit Khati.

Ram Prasad Awasthi, the chairman and president of Sanskritik Samaj Nepal, informed that the organization already conducted a number of folk duet-based programs in the past and is interested in pursuing it further and growing it.
