SEALDAH: For a long time, the Railways has been continuously promoting that no one should travel without a ticket. Travelling without a ticket is a punishable offence. But even after that, the ticket sales rate was decreasing at several stations of the Bangaon branch. That's when the Railways took a big step to catch passengers without tickets.
A special team led by the PCCM of Sealdah Division, recently conducted a special ticket checking operation from Dum Dum Cantonment to Barasat station on the Sealdah-Bangaon branch. Where checking is done on all local trains of the up and down lines. This operation started from 9:30 am to 12 noon. The ticket checkers fined a total of 878 people. Out of which 728 people were caught on charges of travelling without a ticket.
In total, the Railways earned a total of 2 lakh 17 thousand 780 taka in this special operation. According to railway sources, as soon as the news of this special campaign spread, ticket sales at various stations on the Sealdah-Bangaon section increased by about three to four lakh taka, the railways said. Senior DCM Pawan Kumar of the railways said, "This special ticket checking campaign will be conducted at Halt stations, Bangaon, Hasnabad and Sealdah South sections in the coming days." The railways said that this special campaign is not only to generate additional income, but also to make people aware.
