KATHMANDU: Dengue infections are on the rise as temperatures continue to climb. According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,281 cases of dengue have been confirmed across Nepal as of Tuesday this year.

The infection has now spread to 72 districts, with Kathmandu reporting the highest number of cases. However, five districts—Manang, Rasuwa, Dolpa, Humla, and Mahottari—have not recorded any dengue cases so far.

Bagmati Province has the highest number of confirmed infections, with 343 cases. Other provinces have reported the following figures: Koshi with 246, Gandaki 234, Lumbini 207, Sudurpaschim 174, and Karnali 62.

Madhesh Province has reported the fewest cases at 17, despite expectations of higher infection due to the region’s hot climate. Officials suggest that low reporting from Madhesh may have contributed to the lower recorded number.

District-wise, Kathmandu leads with 136 cases, followed by Kaski (92), Sunsari (87), Jhapa (76), Palpa (76), Rupandehi (49), Kanchanpur (37), Dang (32), and Bhaktapur (30).

Compared to last year, the number of confirmed cases is lower this year. Health authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant, particularly until the end of Kartik (mid-November), when the risk of dengue transmission remains high.
