Bus accident in Rautahat injures 10, driver flees scene

RAUTAGAT: Ten passengers were injured in a bus accident that occurred on Monday morning in Chandrapur Municipality of Rautahat district.

According to the Rautahat District Traffic Police Office, a passenger bus en route from Kathmandu to Bhittamod, Mahottari, lost control and veered off the East-West Highway at Chandrapur-2, crashing seven feet off the southern side of the road.

The bus, bearing registration number Ba. Pra. 01–006 Kha 5216, was reportedly operating uncontrollably before the accident occurred.

Among the injured are three Nepali nationals and seven Indian nationals from Bihar, police confirmed. A joint team from the Area Police Office Chandranigahpur and the Traffic Police Office carried out the rescue operation.

The injured are receiving treatment at Chandranigahapur Hospital in Chandrapur and are reported to be in normal condition.

However, the driver of the bus fled the scene, and a search operation is currently underway, according to the Area Police Office, Chandranigahpur.
