KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the Constitutional Council meetings should not be held hostage to indecision.

Taking part in a discussion on the Bill designed to amend the Constitutional Council (Function, Duties, Powers and Procedures) Act, 2066, at the meeting of the Legislative Management Committee under the National Assembly today, Minister Gurung said that the appointment process to be made by the Council has been delayed due to the lack of regular meetings. “It is necessary to create an environment for regular council meetings. The council should not be held hostage to indecision for any reason,” he said.

Minister Gurung emphasized that an environment should be created where recommendations are made by the Council unanimously. For this, the main opposition party representative should attend meetings regularly, and everyone should work together to keep the state’s functionary run smoothly.

Taking part in the discussion on the bill, MPs Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Gopi Bahadur Sarki, Madan Kumari Shah, Ghanashyam Rijal, Bhagwati Neupane, Renu Chand, Suresh Kumar Ale Magar, and others expressed the view that the bill should be amended in accordance with the spirit of the constitution.

Committee chair Tulsa Kumari Dahal said the discussion on principles was held today to amend the Council Act and that a detailed clause-wise discussion would be held in the upcoming meeting.
