KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut has highlighted significant improvements in the resolution of cases at the Supreme Court.

Speaking at a tea reception organized by the Supreme Court on the occasion of the 73rd Law Day–2082 on Friday, he noted that the overall percentage of case settlements had improved considerably compared to previous years.

Chief Justice Raut stated that the Supreme Court is on track to clear cases older than eight years by the end of this Asar (mid-July 2025) and cases older than five years by Asar 2083 (mid-July 2026).

He remarked, “The overall case resolution rate at the Supreme Court has seen quantitative growth over the past three years, significantly reducing the backlog of older cases.”

He added, “Statistics indicate that High Courts and District Courts are also achieving major success in their goal to clear cases older than two years and to prevent any case from exceeding 18 months.”

Continuing the momentum from the past, Chief Justice Raut shared that the fifth Five-Year Strategic Plan of the Judiciary commenced on Shrawan 1 (mid-July 2024) of the current fiscal year.

This plan focuses on enhancing judicial effectiveness, improving access to justice, strengthening good governance and public trust in the judiciary, expanding the use of information technology in the judicial process, and developing human resources and physical infrastructure.

He further added, “Based on the strategic plan, the Supreme Court, courts across the country, and judicial bodies have been formulating annual action plans each year to make justice delivery more effective and enhance citizens’ access to justice.”
