Government and Teachers’ Federation reach nine-point agreement, protests called off

KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal and the Nepal Teachers’ Federation have reached a nine-point agreement.

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Raghuji Panta, shared the decision while announcing the Cabinet’s resolution.

With this agreement, the teachers have pledged to call off their protest and participate in the national school enrollment campaign.

President of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, Laxmi Kishor Subedi, informed that the agreement was reached during a meeting held at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology on Wednesday.

President Subedi said the agreement between the government and protesting teachers covers nine major points.

The Teachers’ Federation had been staging a Kathmandu-centered protest since Chaitra 20 (April 2).

He said the protest has been officially called off from today and that enrollment and examination programs will resume starting Thursday.

He also informed that it was agreed the School Education Act will be enacted by Asar 15(June 29).
