KATHMANDU:The National Examination Board (NEB) has decided to conduct the Class 12 examinations on the originally scheduled date, Baisakh 11 (April 24), despite growing uncertainties due to an ongoing nationwide teachers’ protest.

A meeting of the board held on Tuesday morning concluded that the examinations will not be postponed. NEB Chairperson Mahashram Sharma informed that all necessary preparations are being made and the exams will take place as planned.

Uncertainty had loomed over the examinations after teachers across the country launched a protest demanding the immediate implementation of the Education Act.

The teachers, under the leadership of the Teachers’ Federation, have been staging protests, including street demonstrations, since Chaitra 20, 2081 B.S. (April 2, 2025).

Their demands include the prompt endorsement of the Education Act and the integration of 18 categories of teachers under a unified administrative system.
Despite multiple rounds of dialogue between the government and the federation, no agreement has been reached. The protesting teachers have warned that they will not participate in examination-related duties unless their demands are addressed.

Meanwhile, the board has directed examination coordination committees across all districts to proceed with necessary arrangements at exam centers.

The ongoing strike and the recent resignation of Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai had fueled speculation that the Class 12 exams might be delayed. However, with the board’s latest directive, the uncertainty has now been put to rest.
