KATHMANDU: National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal has urged all bodies concerned to comply with environmental standards in course of infrastructures development.

At an interaction with representatives of bodies concerned on draft report of Policy-Level Problems and Suggestions related to National Parks organized by Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee under the National Assembly here today, Chair Dahal shared, “I urge the bodies concerned to comply with environmental standards as we have been victimized from natural disasters including landslide, flood, unseasonal rain and drought for not following the standards.

Stating that it would be easier to prepare long-term plans for future generation if nature is preserved, he argued that it was necessary to human beings to protect forest and wildlife and comply with environmental standards for infrastructure development.

The NA Chair opined that natural disasters would create havoc in the country if we failed to strike balance between development and conservation.

Today, we have facing the severe impacts of climate change. Also, we should not forgot these issues while carrying out development projects,” NA Chairman Dahal added.He cautioned that Nepal could face disastrous natural disasters in future if we continued our activities for overexploitation of our natural resources.

Dahal also reminded of the disasters happened in Chure region, Melamchi area and the flooding of the last rainy season in the Kathmandu Valley.

The NA Chairman suggested that we should work to ensure a lasting result from the development works by upholding the national and international standards while preserving forests, wildlife and nature.

Dahal pointed out the need to carry out development projects only by mandatorily implementing the sustainable development framework.
