JANAKPURDHAM: The Madhes Province Girls’ Summit-2082 began in Janakpurdham on Wednesday. The Province-Level Network for Child Marriage has organized the summit with the coordination of Sports and Social Affairs Ministry of Madhes Province.
The event is running under the theme ‘Capable Girls: Prosperous Madhes’.
Inaugurating the summit, Minister for Sports and Social Affairs of Madhes Province, Pramod Kumar Jaiswal, pointed out the need of creating social awareness to resolve problems like child marriage, dowry and witchcraft which are blight to Madhes.
Similarly, Chairperson of the Women and Children Committee of the Madhes Province, Rupa Kumari Yadav, shared that discrimination between son and daughter should be ended to eradicate child marriage. We should oppose if child marriage takes place, she opined.
It is necessary to move ahead working together with three-tier governments to end child marriage, stressed Mayor of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolis, Manoj Kumar Sah.
Chief of National Human Rights Commission, Madhes Province, Buddha Narayan Sahani, mentioned that the NHRC was firm in its stance against child marriage.
It was reported that cases of child marriage were decreasing in Madhes of late- 34 per cent now against 42 per cent before five years.
