KATHMANDU: Marking the special occasion of Matatirtha Aunsi, people across Nepal are observing Mother’s Day today by showing love, respect, and gratitude to their mothers.
Many begin the day with an early bath, followed by worship ceremonies and the giving of gifts and sweets to their mothers.
Those whose mothers have passed away visit sacred sites like the Matatirtha pond to perform rituals, offer prayers, and make charitable donations.
In Bhaktapur, rituals in memory of departed mothers are carried out at Hanumanghat. Meanwhile, Nepalis abroad are expressing their love through social media and phone calls.
