Natural disasters claim 4 lives, injure 28 across the country

KATHMANDU: Natural disasters have resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to 28 others across various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

A total of 50 districts have been impacted by storms, floods, landslides, and other weather-related incidents as pre-monsoon conditions continue to intensify.

Ram Bahadur KC, spokesperson for the NDRRMA, confirmed that storms alone were responsible for four deaths and 21 injuries. Additionally, two individuals were injured by lightning, four by animal attacks, and one by drowning.

In total, 94 disaster-related events were reported in the past day. Preliminary estimates place the economic damage at around Rs 18 million. The disasters also led to the death of two livestock animals.

The majority of incidents were windstorms, accounting for 59 cases, followed by 16 cases of fire. Other events included lightning strikes, landslides, flooding, and prolonged rainfall.
