KATHMANDU: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) released its ‘Human Development Report 2025’ in Kathmandu, highlighting AI’s potential to advance human development, promote inclusion, and create a more just society.

Nepal ranks 145th (HDI 0.622) in the medium human development category.

Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung outlined Nepal’s AI initiatives, including policy measures for digital economy growth, data centers, and foreign investment.

The government plans to expand AI in education, health, and agriculture, while leveraging Nepal’s hydropower and climate to attract data centers.

The ‘Digital Nepal Framework’aims to enhance e-governance and digital access.

UNDP’s Kyoko Yokosuka emphasized AI’s role in inclusive services, disaster management, and data-driven policymaking, urging balanced innovation for sustainable progress.
