KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need for everyone to work together to protect human life and the future of the Earth amid rising global temperatures and pollution.
Speaking at the launch of the book Climate Calamity: Justice for Loss and Damage, written by Dr. Gopal Krishna Shiwakoti, on Thursday, on the eve of the Sagarmatha Sambaad, Prime Minister Oli stressed the importance of working to ensure a safe and dignified future for coming generations.
“The Earth is getting hotter and the environment increasingly polluted, endangering human life and the future of our beautiful world. At such times, we must work to protect a safe and honorable life and a beautiful future,” said Prime Minister Oli. “Our future generations must be safe and respected. There must be smiles on their faces.”
Prime Minister Oli also stated that he would incorporate key findings and reports on climate justice into his speech at the Sagarmatha Dialogue.
The program included remarks on the relevance of the book by National Human Rights Commission Chair Tap Bahadur Magar, former Foreign Minister Dr. Bimala Rai Paudel, NHRC member Dr. Surya Dhungel, and climate expert Manjil Dhakal.
The government is organizing the Sagarmatha Dialogue for the first time in Nepal from Jestha 2 (May 16).
