KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need for a fundamental transformation of education to make it technology-driven, practical, and employment-oriented.
Speaking at the 99th meeting of Kathmandu University’s assembly held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, on Thursday, PM Oli—who also serves as the university’s chancellor—highlighted the importance of producing a skilled workforce capable of creating jobs and engaging in self-employment. He appreciated the positive efforts Kathmandu University has made toward this goal.
He also emphasized the need to increase general student access to health, education, and other sectors, and called for reconsideration of the current scholarship policy in medical education, where up to 75% of seats are offered on scholarships.
Education, Science and Technology Minister and university Pro-Chancellor Raghuji Panta urged the implementation of PM Oli’s concerns and commitment to educational reform, assuring efforts to develop Nepal as an educational hub.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Achyut Prasad Wagle, stated that the institution will work in line with policies aimed at translating the concept of a research-oriented university into practice alongside quality teaching.
