PM Oli's visit to China will further harmonize Sino-Nepal ties

KATHMANDU: Preparations for the official visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to China on December 2-5 at the cordial invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang are taking place in a full swing.

The citizens of both the countries anticipate that Prime Minister Oli's visit will further harmonize bilateral ties both at the government and people's levels.

Prior to the visit, senior leaders of the ruling parties – CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress and the two party mechanism are intensively engaging in discussions on various agendas, including BRI keeping national interest at the centre.

Laying focus on the imminent visit, there was a discussion between the leaders including Prime Minister and UML chair Oli and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Also today, another round of discussion was held with members of the PM-led delegation travelling to China at the presence of PM Oli.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister instructed the delegates to play active role from their end to realize the the mission aiming at further deepening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

"Our visit to China will be successful. We will strive our best to make it remarkable", PM Oli asserted.

He further noted, "Our focus will be on enhancing god image of the nation and strengthening the friendly relations persisting between the two countries".

On the occasion, officiating Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, chief of protocol Bishnu Prasad Gautam and, Spokesperson of Foreign Ministry Krishna Prasad Dhakal informed about the overall aspects of bilateral relations as well as diplomatic conducts, ceremony and BRI framework respectively.

Spokesman Dhakal shared that there will be close discussions with the Chinese side on cooperation in the areas such as expansion of connection networks, investment, trade, tourism, and agriculture and infrastructure development.

Earlier, Prime Minister Oli discussed with the former Prime Ministers and former Foreign Ministers on November 25 in the run up to the preparation of his visit.

The cabinet meeting on November 28 approved the visit of the Prime Minister to China and the delegation members.

During the visit, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and will hold delegation-level talks with his Chinese counterpart Li.

Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, Zhao Leji, also has a programme to call on Prime Minister Oli.

The PM will address the programme to be held at Peking University.

Similarly, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to address the Nepal-China Business Forum to be jointly organized by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Nepal Confederation of Industry and Commerce.

Prime Minister's spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Prime Minister's Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Prime Minister's Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada, members of the Federal Parliament will accompany PM Oli during the visit.
