KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall have blocked roads at six different locations on major highways, severely disrupting transportation, according to Nepal Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire.
As per the Police Headquarters, a landslide in Chapeli of Bagmati Rural Municipality–3 in Lalitpur has blocked the Kanti Lokpath road since early morning.
Similarly, the Araniko Highway has been obstructed in three separate locations in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok district due to landslides. The affected areas include Kodari (Ward 2), Larcha (Ward 3), and Koplang (Ward 2).
In Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), the East-West Highway is blocked after a flood in the Binayi River swept away a diversion in Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality–1.
Additionally, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality–6, Gulmi, has been completely closed due to a landslide in Barlaba.
In Jumla, a landslide in Sinja has obstructed the Jumla–Mugu road, and in Dhankuta, the Rabi–Ranke–Bhedetar road in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality–5 has been opened for one-way traffic only.
Authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to clear the blocked roads and restore normal transportation.
