KATHMANDU: Negotiations between the Nepal Teachers’ Federation and the government have begun. Both parties claim that the ongoing talks at the Ministry of Education today will be decisive.
Continuous talks have been taking place since Monday between Education, Science, and Technology Minister Raghuji Panta and the leaders of the Teachers’ Federation.
During the talks, the Federation presented a 9-point proposal for agreement. According to Federation officials, if a decision is made today, they will change the form of the protest.
Federation co-chair Nanu Maya Parajuli mentioned that if a decision is made on the 9-point proposal, they will shift the modality of the protest and participate in the Grade 12 examination.
Teachers have been protesting since 20th Chaitra (April 2) demanding the implementation of the School Education Act. The teachers have been on the streets for 29 days.
Their protests have disrupted the school enrollment campaign, the Grade 12 examinations, and the checking of answer sheets for the SEE (Secondary Education Examination).
