KATHMANDU: In a significant internal shakeup within the Nepali Congress, 20 central committee members of its sister wing, the Nepal Women’s Association, have collectively resigned, citing dissatisfaction with the current leadership.
The resigning members belong to the Shekhar–Gagan faction of the Nepali Congress. Among them are prominent figures such as Navodita Chaudhary, Bhagawati KC, Miradevi Chand, Parbati Chand, Gita Gurung, Rama Aryal, Lilakumari Nepal, Radha Kunwar, Sunisha Bhetwal, and Parabati Acharya. Other members who tendered their resignations include Chandradevi Joshi, Rita Shahi, Chhaya Sunar, Dr. Amita Pradhan Shakya, Uma Shiwakoti, Ranjita Giri, Dr. Sita Ghimire, and Tara Thapaliya.
“Due to the Chairperson’s complete neglect and inaction on numerous issues,” the resignation letter states, “we have witnessed a tragic erosion in the reputation and functioning of what was once a strong and proud sister organization. In view of this deteriorating state and in hope for a brighter future for the party and the Nepal Women’s Association, we are resigning from our central positions.”
