KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress central committee member Prakash Rasaili ‘Snehi’ has remarked that delays in renewing active memberships are occurring particularly in districts belonging to leaders aspiring for top positions in the upcoming 15th General Convention.
Speaking at the ongoing central committee meeting at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Sunday, Rasaili, who is also a member of the Active Membership Management Committee, pointed out that renewal has been sluggish precisely in the home districts, constituencies, and wards of those eyeing the posts of party president, vice president, and general secretary.
He criticized the tendency of such leaders to blame delays in the general convention on the party center while failing to address the membership renewal process in their own districts.
“Those seeking to become president, vice president, and general secretary should first focus on completing active membership renewals in their own areas,” Rasaili said. “What’s the point of criticizing delays here in Kathmandu if there’s no progress in your own base? Let’s first look at our own ground realities before pointing fingers.”
Rasaili also noted that more than 200 leaders have expressed interest in top positions, yet active membership renewals have not been completed in many of their respective areas.
He emphasized that blaming the party president or general secretary for delays holds no meaning if aspirants themselves are not taking responsibility.
He added that efforts are underway to resolve disputes in districts where issues have stalled the process.
Rasaili stressed that the quicker the renewal process concludes, the sooner the general convention can take place.
