DPM Singh calls to preserve Newari arts, cultures

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, has stressed the need of preserving and transferring the Newari arts, literature, cultures and language, which he says are the national treasures.

Inaugurating the first national seminar ‘Newa: Technology and Craft Knowledge’ organized here today by Nepal Bhasa Academy, DPM Singh mentioned that the Newar community should involve in politics by preserving their heritages as well.

Similarly, Deputy-Mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, expressed the view that it would be easier for the new generation to take their civilization ahead if food, music instruments, lifestyle, craft, knowledge could be connected with science and modernization adding that there are the true identities of the Newar community.

Presenting a working paper on Newa Civilization-Newa Technology and Craft Knowledge’, Chancellor of the Academy, Malla K Sundar, mentioned that food, paintings, festivals, processions, plays and research being practiced by Newar community are invaluable assets of the country.
