KATHMANDU: The budget session of the Federal Parliament is set to begin today (Friday) at 1 p.m. at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.

President Ram Chandra Paudel convened the session based on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in line with Article 93 of Nepal’s Constitution.

This session, widely recognized as the budget session, is particularly significant as it will feature the unveiling of the government’s annual policy plans and the national budget.

Lawmakers are also expected to discuss several important pending bills, such as the Federal Civil Service Act and the School Education Bill.

The previous session ended on March 31. According to constitutional guidelines, there must not be a gap of more than six months between sessions.

President Paudel is slated to address the joint meeting of both houses, presenting the government’s policies and programs, tentatively scheduled for May 1.

Following a pre-budget discussion beginning on May 11, the Finance Minister is scheduled to present the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year on May 28.

Debate on the Appropriation Bill’s core principles and priorities will take place in the lead-up to the budget announcement.

The Parliament Secretariat, according to spokesperson Ekram Giri, has finalized all logistical and technical arrangements to ensure the session proceeds smoothly.
