KATHMANDU: The hearing of the case filed against former Speaker and Vice Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Agni Prasad Sapkota has resumed today in the Supreme Court. The writ filed against Sapkota by Kavreki Purnimaya Lama was scheduled to be heard in the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court.

Today, a Constitutional Bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi Manoj Kumar Sharma and Kumar Chudal has been formed, and the hearing is underway.

Earlier, on Asoj 9, a progress report was demanded. The bench of then Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and Justices Prakash Man Singh Raut, Sapana Pradhan Malla, Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Kumar Regmi had ordered the investigation report to be submitted.

Sapkota’s wife Purnimaya Lama had filed a writ petition on November 22, 2012, demanding an immediate investigation into the murder of Arjun Lama of Kavre, as Sapkota was involved. Similarly, Kanakmani Dixit and Sushil Pyakurel had also filed writ petitions demanding action against Sapkota in the same case.

Taking a preliminary decision on the case, the then bench of Justice Sushila Karki and Om Prakash Mishra had ordered the case to be referred to the Constitutional Bench.

Arjun Lama, who was the chairman of the Krishna Secondary School Management Committee in Chhatrabanjh, Kavre, was murdered by Maoist cadres in April 2006, during the Maoist conflict. The victim’s family claims that Sapkota was involved in the murder, as he was leading the Maoists of Kavre at that time.
