KATHMANDU: During a session of the House of Representatives on Sunday, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sobita Gautam raised grave concerns over the state of the judiciary, questioning its handling of judicial processes and the constitutional rights of defendants.
Gautam warned that judicial processes are being “murdered” before justice is delivered, urging Parliament and civil society to take collective responsibility rather than remain passive. “Will we continue to be silent witnesses, or will we stand up and resist this decay?” she challenged.
Highlighting the critical role of the media, Gautam emphasized that the press should not shy away from exposing legal violations and injustice. She remarked, “Ignoring such issues entirely only deepens the crisis of public trust.”
Gautam drew parallels between systemic injustice and acts of violence, stating that the resulting despair is a shared burden of the press, civil society, and Parliament.
She concluded by stressing the need for accountability in upholding the rule of law.
