KATHMANDU: A deal has been reached among the three major parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre)—to resolve the obstruction in the House of Representatives, but it remains uncertain whether the parliamentary deadlock will end, as the Rastriya Swatantra Party has not joined the agreement.
The deal aims to address the ongoing controversy surrounding the misuse of visit visas and immigration loopholes. However, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which has been actively raising the issue and demanding accountability, has opted out of the agreement. The RSP did not sign the document, signaling its dissatisfaction with the terms of the consensus.
According to the signed agreement, the government will fully support the ongoing investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) concerning the visit visa scandal.
Furthermore, the government has committed to conducting a thorough review of the long-standing problems in the immigration and visa system and to pursuing necessary policy, legal, and structural reforms.
The agreement was signed today (June 13) by the chief whips of the three major parties: Shyam Kumar Ghimire of Nepali Congress, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula of CPN-UML, and Hitraj Pandey of CPN (Maoist Centre).
Despite this, the RSP has remained firm on its earlier demand for a parliamentary investigation committee and stated that the agreement does not meet their expectations for a credible and transparent resolution.
